What is RFID?
RFID or Radio Frequency Identification is a technology that uses invisible and harmless radio signals to detect and read information direct from a range of items (books, DVDs, CDs, etc.). It is much like a standard barcode, in that it provides a uniqueness of identification, yet it has the added advantage that (being a wireless technology) items can be identified without a barcode having to be seen. Due to the high performance rates of this technology, schools and colleges around the UK are now deploying RFID as a replacement for older magnetic security systems as it provides a range of additional benefits at a comparable cost. |

If the answer to the above question is '˜Yes' then you may be very interested in one of our latest developments.
The MLS Learning Platform Integration Kit is now available within you Kaleidos learning platform. In partnership with RM, we have integrated a number of Web parts that make your library system an integral part of the RM Kaleidos Learning Platform.
Your library system and resource centre holds a huge range of multimedia resources to support teaching and learning throughout the key stages. Using these Web parts gives you the opportunity to make books and other library resources the most popular content in Kaleidos. Giving students access to engaging and essential resources such as this can help develop your students into independent, motivated readers and learners for life. This level of integration also creates a unified approach to how resources and applications are accessed, simplifying the process for teachers, students and parents '“ making Kaleidos the gateway to everything they need.
Mark Compton, from Kingsmead Technology College, called the Web parts 'a fantastic addition to the learning platform.' When reviewing this option for Kaleidos he added'
"A step in the right direction to making the learning platform a one stop shop for all the school's requirements. Very simple to set up and use (required no help from RM or MLS). The librarian and students have been impressed by the amount of information that can be displayed quickly and easily via these Web parts. All in all a great product that brings the school together in one place."
